Jimmy Boy Thompson - Singer/Songwriter
In the 1960’s and 70’s hilly, suburban Contra Costa County, due east of San Francisco and Oakland, was an emerging area for young musicians eager to develop their pop music skills. Rock, Blues, Folk, Country, Jazz and Reggae all blended together to launch countless bands, developing a microcosm in the greater Bay Area music world. Growing up in this “Co Co County” music scene, Jimmy Boy Thompson was inspired and influenced by all of these musical styles. Starting at age twelve Jim set his focus on the guitar, both acoustic and electric, and played in a number of fledgling, and then established, area bands. Eventually his musical involvements took him out on the road, stretching all the way from the taverns and road houses of Alaska to the dance halls and county fairs of rural Minnesota. Throughout these travels his direction has always been constant, to write, record and perform music that reflects his own personal musical vision.
Recently Jimmy Boy Thompson has re-located from California’s rugged Mendocino coast to the area around Astoria in northwestern Oregon. Much like Mendocino, this area, with its Pacific Ocean and Columbia River boundaries and its verdant rainforests, lends itself to Jim's personal musical introspection. Jim’s latest recording, the eponymous “Jimmy Boy Thompson”, reflects that blend of influences that have led to his unique songwriting and performance style.
